“On This Land – The Charles Deering Estate”

The Deering Estate became a significant public asset when it was acquired by the State of Florida in 1985, and The Villagers have supported the site ever since, even concluding the annual Historic Hunt at the site in 1987. Lifetime Founders, The Villagers have supported various projects including restoration and repairs at the Richmond Cottage, Charles Deering’s first home on the property, which originally served as the 1896 Richmond family home and inn. A recent educational grant helped produce the 30-minute video “On This Land – The Charles Deering Estate” a comprehensive history detailing the importance of the site as a prehistoric archeological site, home of Native Americans, role in the pioneer era, and evolution under the guidance of Charles Deering.
