The Villagers 2024 Scholarship Recipients
The Villagers awarded three $8,000 scholarships to University of Miami (UM) Architecture students, each with a demonstrated focus in the field of historic preservation.
The students were selected from a field of applicants based on scholastic standing, recommendations, samples of their work and statements of interest in preservation of past architecture.
Recipients were Angela Mesaros, Christopher Stinson, and Catalina Cabral-Framinan, all undergraduate students in Architecture at the University of Miami.
Catalina Cabral-Framiñan, who grew up on Key Biscayne, began acting on her love of local history while a student at Mast Academy where she started two clubs dedicated to Miami history, architecture, and the preservation of historic sites. Currently, she is completing dual degrees in architecture and history.
Angela Mesaros has spent a portion of her time at UM in the community taking on projects such as shadowing a city historic preservation officer, and exploring how to create an interpretive center about Miami’s indigenous Tequesta population.
A proven leader among his classmates, Stinson, has a strong empathy for culture, combined with a desire to sensitively transform urban settings. He led a team competition for the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture to develop a community resilience center in the Grand Avenue-Douglas Road neighborhood.
